Dactylioceras nodule
These ammonites are found in little rounded nodules and a careful blow with a hammer and chisel will crack open the nodule revealing the perfectly preserved shell inside. If you're lucky...
Dactylioceras are lovely examples of ammonites, with light ribbing, a steady spiral and a light pyritisation which can be buffed up to a brassy sheen in some specimens.
4.5-6cm ammonite
