How to rate your chances of a meteorite hitting your house.

Meteorites fall to Earth all the time, and everywhere. Mostly, they are too small to notice, or are 'burnt up' as they pass through our atmosphere. It had been thought the falls were pretty random for the most part, but there are factors which influence the frequency.

A Spanish group analysed a group of falls and tried to make sense of the results. At certain times of the year, the planet passes through meteor fields, left on the break-up of a huge comet. It makes sense that we'd see a few more impacts during this period, and this appeared to be the case. Further than that, though, the results seem pretty sketchy, and without a far bigger data set I don't imagine the findings are very helpful. You can read more on the stucy by clicking here.
