Photo of fossil fern

Beautifully contrasting white phosphatised fern leaves on black shale matrix, these Alethopteris ferns are from the 300 million year-old coal measures of St Clair, Pennsylvania.

Individual pieces vary in their content, but I have shown a typical example of a larger size. There will usually be overlapping leaves, sometimes with more than one species. Size will be approximately 7cm across maximum dimension.
